SoCal ROC student shines as a Western Los Angeles Dental Society Scholarship winner!

Emily Martinez gaining hand-on experience in dentistry

Emily Martinez (SoCal ROC Registered Dental Assistant student) was named a Western Los Angeles Dental Society Foundation (WLADS) scholarship winner— awarded to outstanding students from UCLA School of Dentistry, SoCal ROC, and West LA College of Hygiene. The award is presented annually.

The WLADS Foundation scholarship is given to a select few students who demonstrate academic excellence in the classroom, leadership in their community, and a shared value of community dentistry.

Ms. Martinez embarked on her RDA journey in early September of last year and is set to graduate in June 2024. Ms. Martinez plans on making good use of the scholarship award and to put it towards paying for Dental Board Exams, purchasing uniforms for her internship, and being better prepared for a career as a Registered Dental Assistant.

Ms. Martinez is active in her community dating back to her high school years and is deeply involved in church fundraisers, raising money for charities, and supporting elementary school students with reading and writing. She looks forward to directing her passion for helping others to creating awareness regarding the importance of oral health.

Ms. Martinez credited SoCal ROC’s RDA programs high success rates in the RDA Dental Board Exam as a key component in her enrolling in the program. She also showed great appreciation for the diligence and pride longtime SoCal ROC RDA instructor, Ms. Arredondo demonstrates in ensuring her students have the clinical experience, lab work, and industry exposure to pass the RDA Dental Board Exam and enter the dental profession ready to contribute.

Ms. Martinez plans on continuing her career in the dental field and is interested in further exploring the multiple career opportunities within Pediatric Dentistry.
