Pharmacy Technician

The Pharmacy Technician program prepares students for employment as a Pharmacy Technician and provides a solid foundation for a career in pharmacy. Students will learn Pharmacokinects and Pharmacodynamics to help assist patients with diagnosis and diseases.
Learn Valuable Industry Skills!
Beginning with the history of the field of pharmacy work and pharmacology, the course will emphasize appropriate medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, math as related to filling prescriptions, and drugs as related to body systems. How to accept prescriptions for filling, gather and process necessary information, calculate anticipated drug dosages, and compound, package, and label pharmaceutical products under the direction of the pharmacist will be covered. Students will learn operations of pharmaceutical machinery and how to maintain and clean equipment, work areas and shelves. Students will acquire the skills to perform clerical tasks, prepare prescription labels, process pharmacy medical insurance claims and learn to receive, store, and inventory pharmaceutical supplies.

Designations offered to students completing the Pharmacy Technician course include
1. A Certificate of Competency with eligibility to apply for pharmacy board state license
2. CPR/BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
3. Working in the patient care system through an externship and job opportunities

Thank you for your interest in enrolling in the SoCal ROC Pharmacy Technician program.
In order to enroll in the program, the following requirements apply:
High school students
Open to High School Seniors (at least 17 1/2 years old)
Have a C or better in Math and Science
In order to apply for the Pharmacy Technician Registration and/or the optional certification exam (see below), the applicant must provide a Social Security number on the application forms.
Adult students
Povide proof of a HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA or GED (translated into English).
In order to apply for the Pharmacy Technician Registration and/or the optional certification exam (see below), the applicant must provide a Social Security number on the application forms.
Purchase of apparel and materials is required. Please contact registration for full list.
Additional requirements needed to apply for the State of California Pharmacy Technician license include:
Pharmacy Technician Application Fee ($140)
Live Scan Fingerprinting Fee (approximately $60)
Practitioner Self-Query Report (approximately $4)
2” x 2” passport photo taken within 60 days of filing the Pharmacy Technician application
Optional exam:
Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam Application Fee ($140). This optional exam is
administered through the PTCB. Exam registration is completed online.
Additional approximate fees for all students include:
Purchase of a white pharmacy smock or lab coat—short length ($25)
CPR/BLS (Basic Life Support) certification card taught in classroom by instructor:
$40.00. All students who will completing their externship must have a BLS certification
in order to work in any medical facility
Complete in 2 Semesters: Monday - Thursday from 4:15pm - 7:00pm (HYBIRD)
