Module 1: Electrocardiography/Urinalysis (EKG/UA)
Module 2: Administration of Injections (INJ) (Student must be at least 18 years old)
Module 3: Venipuncture Certification (VENI) (Student must be at least 18 years old)
Module 4: Assisting with Complete Physical Examinations (CPX)
Module 5: Medical Front Office
Module 6: Externship (Optional) (must be completed within 6 months of completion of Modules 1-5)

Learn Valuable Industry Skills!

1. Electrocardiography/Urinalysis (EKG/UA)

In Module 1 students will learn EKG monitor techniques and technologies for tracking patients in an inpatient setting. Concepts learned are of cardiac rhythms, EKG machine preparation, 12 lead EKG interpretation, electrodes, the cardiovascular system, heart rates and procedures for reporting to the appropriate medical professional.

This module also covers the physical, chemical, and microscopic analysis of urine, use and storage of reagent strips, how to use centrifuge and microscope for uriinalysis.

Students will also assist with and performs diagnostic tests such as measuring vision and performing and recording pulse oximetry, audiometry and ear lavage, and spirometry.

2. Administration of Injections (INJ) (Student must be at least 18 years old)

Module 2 covers pharmacology and administration of medications. Students will first learn drug actions, prescription abbreviations, and metric dosages. Students will become familiar with the emergency medications and the equipment and supplies stored on the crash cart. This course covers the guidelines for preparing and administering medication and proper documentation in patient's chart. Students will identify proper sites for each type of injection and choose proper gauge and length of needls for injection sites. Students will then begin administering medication using intradermal, subcutaneous and intramuscular methods.

3. Venipuncture Certification (VENI) (Student must be at least 18 years old)

Module 3 covers phlebotomy and laboratory techniques. This includes introduction to common laboratory tests and the normal ranges for each test. Students will learn OSHA safety precautions , proper patient preparation and location sites for venipuncture and skin puncture, and glucose testing and hematocrit when performing skin puncture. Students will also be taught how to accurately assemble and care for venipuncture equipment when using vacutainer system and butterfly needle method of venipuncture.

4. Assisting with Complete Physical Examinations (CPX)

Module 4 covers anatomy and physiology, vital signs and temperatures, physical examinations, diagnostic testing, and infection control and minor surgery. 

Students will learn how to record vital signs; temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, and  how to use oral, rectal, tympanic, temporal artery, and Temp-adot thermometers. Students will learn how to assist with patients physical examinations. This includes; positioning and draping patients,  recording height and weight, measuring vision using Snellen eye chart, how to set up for a complete physical exam, pap, and pelvic exam. Students will become familiar with the appropriate instruments and sterile techniques to assist with minor surgery.

5.  Medical Front Office

Students learn administrative office skills including: receptionist duties, telephone techniques, appointment scheduling, introduction to insurance claims processing, financial management of the office, written communications, terminology and abbreviations. 

6. Externship (Optional) (must be completed within 6 months of completion of Modules 1-5)

Students will be placed in a medical facility and perform clinical, administrative, and general skills under the supervision of a trainer. The externship provides a great opportunity for students to foster connections with potential employers and gain industry experience.

Designations offered to students completing our Medical Assisting Modules program include

1. After successful completion of each individual module students will receive a Certificate of Competency 

2. Upon completion of Modules I-V and 160 hour unpaid externship students will be elgible to take the the national CMA (AAMA) Certification Examination to become a Certified Medical Assistant

Thank you for your interest in enrolling in SoCal ROC's Medical Assisting Module courses. 

In order to enroll in the program, students must:

High school 

 Modules 1, 4, and 5 are open to Grade Levels 9-12th
 Students must be 18 yrs old to partake in modules 2 and 3
 Upon completions of Module 1-5 students can take the optional externship upon graduation. 

Adult

 Completion of a HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA or GED (translated into English) is strongly suggested, not required.
 Purchase of apparel and materials is required. Please contact registration for full list.

The following prerequisites must be submitted when enrolling in Module 6: Externship:
 Provide proof of a NEGATIVE MANTOUX TEST or NEGATIVE CHEST X-RAY
 Provide proof of completing the HEPATITIS B vaccine (3 injections) or sign a vaccine waiver
 Provide proof of the VARICELLA and MMR vaccines or sign a vaccine waiver
 Provide proof of the Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and whooping cough booster) vaccine
 If an adult, possess a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers card only.
 Most externship sites may require the COVID-19 vaccine prior to beginning the externship.
 Face masks are required to be worn during skills practice time in the classroom. More information will be given on the first day of class.

Note: If you do not have a record of the listed vaccines, you will need to request a blood test to check for immunity.
